At Unexpected Paperie, we are passionate about conserving this beautiful planet.
After all, it’s where we live
and play.
Here are just a few things we do everyday to minimize our carbon footprint.
Our studio is 100% wind-powered.
Most of the paper we offer you is made of 30% - 100% recycled material, is chlorine-free, and is made in the USA using renewable energy sources (hydro or wind power) by a paper mill that recognizes sustainable forestry.
We heat our studio using passive solar energy, and a wood stove on extra-chilly days, which significantly reduces the amount of energy we use.
Our printer is energy-efficient certified, and uses ink instead of toner (toner emits harmful chemicals into the atmosphere which negatively affect our health and air quality).
We refill our printer ink cartridges instead of purchasing new ones, drastically cutting down on plastic consumption.
We use energy-efficient light bulbs throughout the studio.
We walk to work, eliminating a gas-guzzling commute.
In an effort to minimize deliveries (trucks=gas=pollution), we’ve carefully selected just a few vendors to purchase all of our supplies from.We also consolidate project orders when possible to reduce truck deliveries.
We do all our errands in one trip, taking the bus when possible.
We reuse boxes and packing materials all the time. While our packaging presentation is beautiful on the inside, don’t be surprised if your items arrive in a pre-used box.
We conserve at every opportunity – water, heat, and light (the studio is flooded with natural light all day long).
To clean the studio, we use earth-friendly products and washcloths instead of disposable paper towels.
We use both sides of every sheet of printer paper, and then recycle it when done.
In addition to paper, we recycle all other items that our local recycling center will accept.
