Unexpected Paperie was created for couples that want fun, custom and coordinated wedding stationery that truly captures their unique personalities.

It all started in 2003 when my partner proposed on a backpacking trip in the Adirondacks.  We wanted wedding invites that were original and that really captured our personality – something non-traditional.  But we also wanted stationery that coordinated throughout all our wedding events.  And it had to be eco-friendly!

I spent lots of time shopping around to fill this tall order.  Living in the mountains of Colorado, I love to play outdoors.  I realized I was wasting valuable time that could have been spent snowboarding, kayaking, and camping.  So I decided to make our own wedding stationery.

Our engagement party invites were first, followed by the wedding invites and ceremony programs.  Then there were the reception accessories which included seating cards, table numbers, dinner menus, and inserts for our CD favors.  Topping it all off were the thank you notes.

The overall look was well-designed and professional, and other soon-to-be brides were impressed with how all the pieces coordinated.  The orders started coming in!  Word spread from one bride to the next, and Unexpected Paperie was born.
